In This Month's NAVA: So what is a SHMUP? Wikipedia puts it like this: "SHMUP is a subgenre of video games within the shooter subgenre in the action genre. There is no consensus as to which design elements compose a shoot 'em up. Some restrict the definition to games featuring spacecraft and certain types of character movement; others allow a broader definition including characters on foot and a variety of perspectives." On this day, SHMUPS will be the kind where there are bullets flying everywhere and you're flying *something*. Many, many bad guys will die on this day!

Arcade challenge! SO many games to choose from so we've chosen one that's a bit out of left field. It's the THIRD game in the Konami series Parodius (which is in itself a parody of their long running series Gradius), 1996's Sexy Parodius! Parents, don't worry, it's not very sexy. Be the best at this game on this one day by logging the highest score on our arcade cabinet by 9pm and win a nifty $20 gift certificate. Arcade challenge games are set to FREE PLAY all day, but please remember to let everyone get a shot. If you get the high score, move on, and no hogging the cabinet! Also if you have won last month’s arcade challenge you are not eligible to win this month’s challenge.

Tournament! The Sega Genesis had a bunch of really good shooters and we rarely get to highlight the Genesis in our tournaments. What perfect time than to get gamers going head to head in the arguably-better-than-the-arcade-version Forgotten Worlds! Fly around the screen stealing as many points from your opponent as possible, and STAY ALIVE! Who among NAVA members has the best flying-with-weapon skills? Let's find out. Sign-ups begin at 3pm, the tournament starts after 6pm and its first-come, first-served in this FREE-to-join tournament.
