NAVA Gamer's Gathering, March 25: "POX ON PIXEL-CON 2023"

NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. This is a FREE event bringing gamers together for competition, trading, and chatter.

Previously at NAVA...
- We celebrated Pixel-Con '23 and its showcase of low-res graphic masterpieces from the golden era of videogames.
- The arcade challenge was Sega's TRANQUILIZER GUN. Our high score winner was Steven who tranquilized 9220 points worth of game and earned the day's high score challenge and a $20 gift certificate.
- The 6pm tournament was OUTLAW on the Atari 2600. Top gunfighter: Frank The Tank.
- Gamers, collectors and friends shared their recent adventures and sold or traded their goods.

In This Month's NAVA: POX ON PIXEL-CON 2023! It seems everyone was up in arms about the representation of this so called "golden age" last month, and the "better age" now requires proper representation. Always willing to comply with gamers, especially those with pitchforks, shovels and burning torches, on this day, we are 16-bit. Super Nintendo, Genesis and TurboGrafx-16 will rule the day.

As always, there will be game systems set up around the store for everyone to play, featuring this month's theme!

Arcade Challenge: The mascot for the venerable TurboGrafx-16 was Bonk, a caveman who literally used his head to defeat his enemies. In 1994, Kaneko put together an arcade game for Bonk, who was known in JApan as PC Genjin. The game is KYOKYOKU, or BC KID here in the US, and it's a little like the TurboGrafx game but also decidedly different. Be the best at this game on this one day by logging the highest score on our arcade cabinet by 9pm and win a nifty $20 gift certificate. Arcade challenge games are set to FREE PLAY all day, but please remember to let everyone get a shot. If you get the high score, move on, and no hogging the cabinet! Also if you have won last month’s arcade challenge you are not eligible to win this month’s challenge.

Tournament! One of the key features of the TurboGrafx-16 was its multi-tap device, which you needed just to play two-player games! There are a plethora of co-op and competitive games on the system but one we've never really put out there for competitive purposes is PARASOL STARS. Many have played the Bubble Bobble games and Parasol Stars was the third entry in the series after Rainbos Islands. What NAVA attendee can outplay any opponent? Let's find out. Sign-ups begin at 3pm, the tournament starts after 6pm and its first-come, first-served in this FREE-to-join tournament.

Remember, feel free to bring a box or two of your trade goodies. We'll help you administer sales and get you set up somewhere in the store to sell your goods. NAVA is a time for trading! Also, if you have a Digital Press or NAVA t-shirt, wear them for a for an additional 5% discount on our already low-low prices Image removed. If you don't have a Digital Press t-shirt, ask us how to buy one while you're here. It's NAVA time, people!
