NAVA Gathering, March 31st: "Kabushikigaisha Konami Hōrudingusu"

NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. This is a FREE event bringing gamers together for competition, trading, and chatter.

Previously at NAVA...
- In our last episode, we commemorated the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto with lots of open-world crime games.
- The arcade challenge was the 1981 Pacific Novelty game "Thief". Walter robbed his competition by taking the high score (78,840) and earned the coveted $20 prize.
- Games and systems traded hands between attendees who brought their own trade boxes.

In This Month's NAVA: This month marks the 49th anniversary of one of our favorite videogame creators: Konami. Think about the legacies Konami has left us. Since the late 1970's they have launched a number of classic games, many of which are franchises to this day, including the arcade games Frogger, Gradius, Contra, TMNT, Sunset Riders and Dance Dance Revolution; NES Castlevania and Metal Gear; Genesis/SNES Zombies Ate My Neighbors; Genesis/Saturn Snatcher; PlayStation Silent Hill and Suikoden... and the list goes on and on. Let's join together today to celebrate the joy Konami has brought to the gaming community.

Arcade challenge! We're gonna pull an obscure one out for this NAVA because it's a great game that gets very little fanfare. Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa will remind you of Sunset Riders, it's actually based on a kids animated series. Be the best at this game on this one day by logging the highest score on our arcade cabinet by 9pm and win a nifty $20 gift certificate and possibly get your name added to the "House Champion" tournament plaque on the Wall of Fame just above the arcade section of the store. Arcade challenge games are set to FREE PLAY all day, but please remember to let everyone get a shot. If you get the high score, move on, and no hogging the cabinet! Also if you have won last month’s arcade challenge you are no eligible to win this month’s challenge.

Tournament! We have not done a Poy Poy free-for-all in a long, long, time. The day has come. Who can toss their opponents and dangerous items the hardest? Let's find out. Sign-ups begin at 3pm, the tournament starts around 6pm and its first-come, first-served in this FREE-to-join tournament.

Remember to get your trade boxes in order so we can all buy, sell and trade together. Wear your NAVA or Digital Press t-shirt for the maximum discount on store purchases. Also, bring your Nintendo 3DS to share street passes... it's NAVA time!
