NAVA Gamer's Gathering, September 30th: "I Am Woman"
NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. This is a FREE event bringing gamers together for competition, trading, and chatter.
Previously at NAVA...
- In our last episode, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of Mario Kart by playing... Mario Kart. Also many other kart racers that were inspired by the original.
- The 6pm tournament was Super Mario Kart (Super NES). Our champion was Smash Bry, the kartiest of them all.
- The arcade challenge was the game Drift Out. Frank the Tank sped past the competition and earned the $20 prize.
- Games and systems traded hands between attendees who brought their own trade boxes.

In This Month's NAVA: This month's release of "Metroid: Samus Returns" for the Nintendo 3DS gave us pause to think back and honor the many women in videogaming lore who have dedicated their lives to fighting the good fight. Whether that fight be against giant brains with cybernetic spikes, rival adventurers, or competing volleyball players, their efforts have not gone unrecognized by your friends here at Digital Press. As such, this month's NAVA theme is dedicated to these women who fight the good fight!
Arcade challenge! While the game may not be the most obvious for this month's theme, we've always felt SNK's 1986 game "Psycho Soldier" to be one of the great unsung standouts that ALSO happens to feature a female lead. On this day you will play the role of Athena as you side-scroll through various Japan landscapes fighting off an army of bad tech. Be the best at the game on this one day by logging the highest score on our arcade cabinet by 9pm and win a nifty $20 gift certificate and possibly get your name added to the "House Champion" tournament plaque on the Wall of Fame just above the arcade section of the store. Arcade challenge games are set to FREE PLAY all day, but please remember to let everyone get a shot. If you get the high score, move on, and no hogging the cabinet! Also if you have won last month’s arcade challenge you are no eligible to win this month’s challenge.
Tournament! The "Dead or Alive" series began way back in 1996 in arcades and on the Sega Saturn and PlayStation. The series features PRIMARILY female characters. Our tournament will showcase"Dead or Alive 4" on XBox 360. You can play as ANY character you want, but only a female character can win the final. Can you use this strategy to your advantage? Let's find out. Sign-ups begin at 3pm, the tournament starts around 6pm and its first-come, first-served in this FREE-to-join tournament.
Remember to get your trade boxes in order so we can all buy, sell and trade together. Wear your NAVA or Digital Press t-shirt for the maximum discount on store purchases. Also, bring your Nintendo 3DS to share street passes... it's NAVA time!
