NAVA Gamer's Gathering, January 28th: "Switch to NAVA"

*snap*

NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. This is a FREE event bringing gamers together for competition, trading, and chatter.

Previously at NAVA...
- In our last episode, the holidays were upon us, and we were upon the holidays as secret Santas engaged in the joy of giving. Someone even got a Nintendo Mini!
- The arcade challenge was Snow Bros 2 and Frank M won with over ONE MILLION points, taking a $20 gift certificate for his prize.
- NAVA went right through midnight, which, incidentally, ran through the new year. Happy New Year, all.
- Games and systems traded hands between attendees who brought their own trade boxes.

See it all in our photo gallery section at the store's website and feel free to comment!

In This Month's NAVA: SWITCH... to NAVA! There's a lot of hubbub over the recent unveiling and announcement regarding Nintendo's next console/handheld hybrid. The SWITCH will truly do something different and as Nintendo often does, buck many of the trends in favor of a unique product that they hope is squarely aimed at their consumer base. We shall see. In the meantime, we will be doing all kinds of SWITCH stuff, bucking the trends as well. At this month's NAVA you will play various games with SWITCHes, levers, knobs and dials. Expect Double Switch, Mr. Do's Castle, a six-switch Atari 2600, Doom and our underground favorite Castles of Dr. Creep within our extended NAVA play area.

Arcade challenge! One of the greatest games that require you to SWITCH is Exidy's Mouse Trap. Mouse Trap was a minor success in the early 80's primarily because it was ported to the ColecoVision (and Coleco in turn ported it to Atari and Intellivision systems). In the game, you are a mouse being pursued by cats in a Pac-Man-style maze. Power pellets allow you to turn into a dog and turn the tables. What makes the game a bit deeper than Pac-Man is that you have control over a set of red, yellow and blue doors that SWITCH position when you press that door's button, essentially changing the whole maze in the process. And... watch out for the hawk that can also get you while in dog form! Be the best at the game on this one day by logging the highest score on our arcade cabinet by 9pm and win a nifty $20 gift certificate and possibly get your name added to the "House Champion" tournament plaque on the Wall of Fame just above the arcade section of the store. Arcade challenge games are set to FREE PLAY all day, but please remember to let everyone get a shot. If you get the high score, move on, and no hogging the cabinet! Also if you have won last month’s NAVA arcade challenge you are no eligible to win this month’s challenge.

Tournament! We've chosen a game where not only will you SWITCH (gems on the screen) but we are going to simlate the Nintendo SWITCH experience by challenging you to play Bejeweled on both console and handheld - much as Nintendo's system will do. Players will go head to head in lightning rounds where one racks up a score on a console while the other racks up a score on a handheld. Then, you will SWITCH places. Highest combined score moves onto the next round. Are you the world's greatest SWITCH player? Let's find out. Sign-ups begin at 3pm, the tournament starts around 6pm and its first-come, first-served in this FREE-to-join tournament.

Remember to get your trade boxes in order so we can all buy, sell and trade together. Wear your NAVA or Digital Press t-shirt for the maximum discount on store purchases. Also, bring your Nintendo 3DS to share street passes... it's NAVA time!
