NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. This is a FREE event bringing gamers together for competition, trading, and chatter.
Previously at NAVA...
- In our last episode, we celebrated both the “Re-Gifting” Season & Star Wars with our Star Wars Holiday Special.
- We had our annual “Gift Grab” and many great gifts were exchanged and NAVA regular Frank “The Tank” had a little prank pulled on him with arguably the worst gift ever which included a broken PS1, half a Game Gear, 5 copies of both Kinect Adventure and PlayStation Sports. We all had a good laugh and then gave him his real gift.
- The arcade challenge was Star Wars & Frankie won with 881,491 points, and walked away with a $20 gift certificate for his prize.
- Games and systems traded hands between attendees who brought their own trade boxes.

This Month's NAVA: we pay tribute to our Robot Overlords. As many of you remember back in 2011 the Robot Wars began and our now almighty rulers took mercy on us and allowed us to live and will continue to allow us to live so long as we pay homage every year with our Robot themed NAVA. So this NAVA we will be playing games that feature our glorious leaders such as Berzerk, Tech Romancer, and Robotron 2084.
Arcade challenge! During the Robot Wars where we foolishly fought against our most merciful leaders we played games like Robotron 2084 and Berzerk. To celebrate our illustrious rulers we will prove our inferiority by playing the sequel to Berzerk as our arcade challenge; Frenzy. Frenzy is a lot like Berzerk except with more robots, destructible walls and walls that you can bounce your lasers off of. Be the best at the game on this one day by logging the highest score on our arcade cabinet by 9pm and win a nifty $20 gift certificate and possibly get your name added to the "House Champion" tournament plaque on the Wall of Fame just above the arcade section of the store. Arcade challenge games are set to FREE PLAY all day, but please remember to let everyone get a shot. If you get the high score, move on, and no hogging the cabinet! Also if you have won last month’s NAVA arcade challenge you are no eligible to win this month’s challenge.
Tournament! To honor the might and power of our magnificent masters we will play Cyborg Justice as our NAVA tournament. Cyborg Justice is a fighting game where instead of a character selection screen you have a robot customization screen. You pick between a body, legs and arms. For example some of your choices for arms include flame throwers, bazookas, & buzz saws. Sign-ups begin at 3pm, the tournament starts around 6pm and its first-come, first-served in this FREE-to-join tournament.
Starting this NAVA we will also be instituting a new rule about trade boxes. In the past few years more and more people have been brining trade boxes and the amount of space people take up is growing as well. From now on trade boxes cannot take up more than 5 square feet. To clarify 5 square feet is an area that is 5 feet by 1 foot, or 2 and a half feet by 2 feet. From now on all trade boxes must be contained to that much space. We will make exceptions for those who bring art or homebrews. If you bring something you made yourself we will not prevent you from putting out both that and an appropriately sized trade box. We will also make exceptions if you have items that themselves are large, like boxed systems or special editions to certain games. If you brought a CIB Steel Battalion we’re not going to make you pack up half of your other items in your trade box. We will ask you to pack up some things if you bring a lot of large items. We cannot have such large trade boxes anymore because it’s a fire hazard.
Remember to get your trade boxes in order so we can all buy, sell and trade together. Wear your NAVA or Digital Press t-shirt for the maximum discount on store purchases. Also, bring your Nintendo 3DS to share street passes... it's NAVA time!
When: Saturday, January 30th, 3pm to midnight.
What happens: Gaming, trading, tournaments, big prizes! Extra game stations are set up around the store. Attendance is FREE. Half price for kids!
What can I bring?: It's nice to share. Snacks, soda and beer are always appreciated. Cakes have been very popular as well.
