NAVA Gamer's Gathering, December 26th: "Star Wars Holiday Special"
NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. This is a FREE event bringing gamers together for competition, trading, and chatter.
Previously at NAVA...
- In our last episode, we celebrated our store’s 10th anniversary and 20 years of NAVA!
- Our NAVA tournament was a roulette of games through the ages & Aristotle won first place and took home the trophy!
- We had 10 arcade challenges on all 10 of our arcade machines that day & multiple people walked away with gift certificates, some with more than one!
- Games and systems traded hands between attendees who brought their own trade boxes.
See it all in our photo gallery section at the store's website and feel free to comment!
This Month's NAVA: ‘Tis the season for re-gifting, and Star Wars! It’s a very Star Warsy Christmas this year, with the seventh movie coming out the weekend before NAVA were having a Star Wars Holiday Specail NAVA! All the games will be Star Wars themed. We’ll even have the movies, along with the infamous holiday special, playing all day! Happy Life Day everyone!
As NAVA tradition dictates December NAVA always falls on the weekend after Christmas, and just as our fore-NAVA-members did before us we will have our annual gift grab! If you don’t know what a gift grab is it’s very simple, you bring a gift in to the event and at 6 PM we put all the gifts together & everyone who brought one gets to pick one! So you don’t know what you’re going to get or who you’re getting it from. In the past some people have gotten such great gifts like a Nintendo Entertainment System Action Set complete in box, a new PS Vita with multiple games, and last year there was a lot of Amiibos! Unfortunately for every great gift in the past someone gets a bad gift; a box of scratched PS2 games and old VHS tapes to name a few. That’s not very much in the spirit of Life Day now is it? So we’ve implemented some rules for the gift grab if you’d like to participate this year:
Digital Press Gift Exchange 2015 Rules
Acceptable gift examples:
-Gifts should be brand new, unopened and related to videogames. (Please be mindful of
buying specific games for specific consoles as not all people own all consoles.)
-Gifts should be valued at approximately $20.
Exceptions to the brand new/unopened rule have been made in the past for exceptional
circumstances like a boxed, complete NES Action Set or an Autographed Colecovision signed by James "Angry Video Game Nerd" Rolfe. In the event that you would like to submit an opened, used item it should be something complete, in near mint condition, highly desirable, unique (autographed merchandise, one of a kind object, rare/valuable promotional item, etc.) or valued above the $20 minimum (NES Action Set, Boxed Complete PlayStation Vita, etc.).
Unacceptable gift examples:
-Opened, used games.
-Opened, used movies (Blu Ray, DVD, etc.).
-Non-game related merchandise (Electronics, toys, clothing, jewlery, etc. with no clear/direct to videogames).
This year we are instituting a new submission/approval system:
-All gifts to be submitted for the gift exchanged will be brought to Digital Press UNWRAPPED (but carefully obscured from other NAVA members). Frankie and Leo will be "approving" all gifts in the basement area.
-If your gift passes the submission rules (above) it will be placed into a sealed, numbered, holiday gift bag.
-At the time of the gift pick, your bag number will be quietly revealed to you so that you do not select your own bag.
-Please do not reveal your bag number to any other NAVA members who may know what gift you have submitted.
We believe that this new system will effectively eliminate all instances of inappropriate and disappointing gifts that have been, despite clear direction in the past, submitted each and every year since the inception of the gift exchange.
Please adhere to the gift rules above and there should be no issue with your submission.
If you bring a stack of opened used games or movies, non-videogame electronics, toys/board games not related to videogames, or any other merchandise valued at below the $20 requirement your items will NOT be accepted for the gift exchange and you will not be allowed to participate.
If you have any questions about the matter or would like to ask if your idea for a gift is “appropriate” ahead of time please E-mail us at: email@example.com
Arcade challenge! Since it’s a Star Wars theme NAVA the arcade challenge will be Star Wars, the arcade game. The vector based first person space shooter game that recreates the infamous scene where our hero Jek Tono Porkins meets his untimely demise. Oh and Luke destroys the Death Star too. Be the best at the game on this one day by logging the highest score on our arcade cabinet by 9pm and win a nifty $20 gift certificate and possibly get your name added to the "House Champion" tournament plaque on the Wall of Fame just above the arcade section of the store. Arcade challenge games are set to FREE PLAY all day, but please remember to let everyone get a shot. If you get the high score, move on, and no hogging the cabinet! Also if you have won last month’s NAVA arcade challenge you are no eligible to win this month’s challenge.
