NAVA Gamer's Gathering, May 31st: "Pac-Man's Birthday Party"

NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. This is a FREE event bringing gamers together for competition, trading, and chatter.

Previously at NAVA...
- In our last episode, we invited attendees to bring something "rare and collectible" to display in one of our large display cases.
- The arcade challenge was the prototype arcade game Rock 'n Rage. Chris A once again walked away with a cool $20.
- Systems out for play included the Apple/Bandai Pippin, Commodore Amiga CD32 and a Panasonic MSX2.
- Games and systems traded hands between attendees who brought their own trade boxes.

See it all in our photo gallery section at the store's website and feel free to comment!

This month! On May 22nd 1980, Namco introduced us to a simple yellow ball with an appetite for pellets. Originally an arcade game in Japan called "Puck Man", Midway would release the arcade game in the USA that October. Pac-Man has been part of our lives ever since. You are cordially invited to Pac-Man's 34th Birthday Party, held right here at the Digital Press Videogames store.

Pac-Man games will be everywhere. We'll have the ambitious Pac-Man Vs. for Gamecube, where one player is Pac-Man on a Game Boy Advance while three other players take the role of ghosts on the Gamecube screen. Pac-Man Museum will be on hand, where you'll get to see and play the great games from his 34-year history including Super Pac-Man, Pac-Mania and 2007's Pac-Man Championship Edition. We will also have a few games from the Pac-Man series on the Atari kiosk and the animated series running on the island's overhead TV. There will also be a special museum section set up just for Pac-Man rarities and curiousities.

Arcade challenge! Rather than trying your patience with the micro-switches on our MAME cabinet, we've chosen a game more suited to these newer joysticks, Pac-Land. Released in 1984, the original game actually didn't have a stick at all, just a left, right and jump button. Be the best at the game on this one day by logging the highest score on our arcade cabinet by 9pm and win a nifty $20 gift certificate and possibly get your name added to the "House Champion" tournament plaque on the Wall of Fame just above the arcade section of the store. Arcade challenge games are set to FREE PLAY all day, but please remember to let everyone get a shot. If you get the high score, move on, and no hogging the cabinet!

Tournament! The latest arcade game in the Pac-Man franchise is Pac-Man Battle Royale (2010). It's a four-player head-to-head contest that plays a little like Championship Edition but with four Pac-Men on the screen at once. Let's find our first local champion. Sign-ups begin at 3pm, the tournament starts around 6pm and it's first-come, first-served in this FREE-to-join tournament.

Remember to get your trade boxes in order so we can all buy, sell and trade together. Wear your NAVA or Digital Press t-shirt for the maximum discount on store purchases. Also, bring your Nintendo 3DS to share street passes... it's NAVA time!
