NAVA Gamer's Gathering, March 29th: "Pencil Neck Geeks"

NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. This is a FREE event bringing gamers together for competition, trading, and chatter.

Previously at NAVA...
- In our last episode, attendees, store personnel and friends and family of Digital Press Videogames paid tribute to SNOW. It's been a snowy winter here in the northeast but the snow-gods were appeased and we had a relatively nice weather day.
- Galaxians (which may have been upside-down penguins) were baked and eaten, thanks Elana!
- The arcade challenge was Alpine Ski. Chris A won the challenge yet again and walked away with the $20 prize.
- The 6pm tournament was Snow Bros (not Super Mario Bros) on the NES. Michael C froze the competition and received considerably mild applause.
- Games and systems traded hands between attendees who brought their own trade boxes.

See it all in our photo gallery section at the store's website and feel free to comment!

This month! Listen, you pencil neck geeks! Bust out your pythons and get ready for a digital beat down. As your booker I'm here to announce a full card of wrestling mayhem with game systems running many of the best wrestling sims of all time. Feel free to show off your own personal gimmick, whether it be attitude or attire!

Arcade challenge! When I attended college at Montclair State (it wasn't a university in 1984) the school's lounge had an arcade, and in that arcade was the great "Tag Team Wrestling" by Technos. I dumped a lot of quarters into that machine, and thought arcade wrestling could never get better than that. A year later, along came the sequel "Mat Mania", with better graphics, smarter opponents and a generally faster pace. So that's the one we're going to play at NAVA. Are you tough enough to get all the way to Blues Bloody and take the championship belt? And can you do it with a higher score than your fellow NAVA attendees? Be the best at the game on this one day by logging the highest score on our arcade cabinet by 9pm and win a nifty $20 gift certificate and possibly get your name added to the "House Champion" tournament plaque on the Wall of Fame just above the arcade section of the store. Arcade challenge games are set to FREE PLAY all day, but please remember to let everyone get a shot. If you get the high score, move on, and no hogging the cabinet!

Tournament! When I was a wee lad, no older than 35 and quick as a whip, I skipped down to my corner ship and forked over all of my allowance money so I could buy WWF No Mercy for my Nintendo 64. I dumped a lot of hours into that game, and thought home console wrestling could never get better than that. Games have gotten prettier, deeper, and certainly faster, but many will argue that No Mercy is still the greatest wrestling game ever to hit home consoles. So on this classic game, who is the toughest wrestler among us? We're gonna find out. Sign-ups begin at 3pm, the tournament starts around 6pm and it's first-come, first-served in this FREE-to-join tournament.

Remember to get your trade boxes in order so we can all buy, sell and trade together. Wear your NAVA or Digital Press t-shirt for the maximum discount on store purchases. Also, bring your Nintendo 3DS to share street passes... it's NAVA time!
