NAVA Gamer's Gathering, January 26th: "Computing Division Computing Section"
NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. This is a FREE event bringing gamers together for competition, trading, and chatter.
Previously at NAVA...
- In December, we celebrated the holidays with a 6pm Secret Santa consisting entirely of videogame-related gifts.
- "Holiday Link" came to spread the holiday cheer and buried a holiday sword in Joe's abdomen.
- Stephanie brought her latest creation, a Vectrex modified to use an iPad screen and using a custom bluetooth joystick!
- A late-night Mario Kart 64 tournament was held. Randy Reynoso is the new house champion.
- The arcade challenge was "Mysterious Stones". Gabe DaCosta took the prize for the day-long event.
- Games and systems traded hands between attendees who brought their own trade boxes.
See it all in our photo gallery section at the store's website and feel free to comment!
This month! We're going to showcase the vintage computers that made the early 80's a great time to LEARN about computers. The day's centerpieces will include Commodore 64, Atari 8-Bit and Texas Instruments TI-99/4A! Behold the magnificent 1541 floppy disk drive! The Wico joystick splitter for the TI! Four player Asteroids! All in glorious COLOR.
Arcade challenge! Since we're themed around vintage computers, I challenge you to play a game that's more commonly associated with computers than arcade cabinets, Irem's 1984 classic "Lode Runner". The game is tough so expect to rotate with other players frequently. Be the best at the game on this one day by logging the highest score on our arcade cabinet by 9pm and win a nifty $20 gift certificate and possibly get your name added to the "House Champion" tournament plaque on the Wall of Fame just above the arcade section of the store. Arcade challenge games are set to FREE PLAY all day, but please remember to let everyone get a shot. If you get the high score, move on, and no hogging the cabinet!.
Tournament! We've dabbled with Fox's "M*A*S*H" for the Atari 2600 during past Random Retro Tournaments. At NAVA, we'll all go head-to-head on the graphically superior version on the Texas Instruments TI-99/4A. All of the blistering helicopter rescue action but now it's clearly HAWKEYE vs. TRAPPER with much prettier graphics, and the operation screen always provides some chuckles. Sign-ups begin at 3pm, the tournament starts around 6pm and it's first-come, first-served in this FREE-to-join tournament.
Remember to get your trade boxes in order and wear your NAVA or Digital Press t-shirt for the maximum discount on store purchases... it's NAVA time!
