NAVA Gamer's Gathering, September 29th: "Design-a-NAVA"
NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. This is a FREE event bringing gamers together for competition, trading, and chatter.
Previously at NAVA...
- In August, gamers entered confidently but left befuddled as they were presented with crazy systems that are fairly obscure.
- The arcade challenge was Taito's Ben Beroh Beh. Aristotle (not the philosopher, just one of our regular score sharks) took the day's prize.
- The store's new Atari kiosk made it's debut.
- Games and systems traded hands between attendees who brought their own trade boxes.
See it all in our our new photo gallery section on the store's website and feel free to comment!
This month! You probably wonder month after month "what will those crazy guys come up with as a theme THIS time?" Well, smartypants, this time, it's YOU who is going to come up with the theme. Custom design it the way we do... will it be based on something "current event" related? Or maybe something simply retro, like a particular company, or a year, or a style of play. Or maybe you're particularly looney and want to attack the theme with a concept. Past Digital Press "concepts" have included monkeys, bombs, monsters, and even Canada.
Arcade challenge! Guess what... this is part of your job too. Find an arcade game that best fits your theme. Think outside the box! Everyone else: Be the best at the game on this one day by logging the highest score on our arcade cabinet by 8pm and win a nifty $20 gift certificate and possibly get your name added to the "House Champion" tournament plaque on the Wall of Fame just above the arcade section of the store. Arcade challenge games are set to FREE PLAY all day. Learn the game, then practice the game.
Tournament! You're up again. It's more complicated than you thought, isn't it? What game works best to fit your theme? Will it be a head to head "bracket" style competition, a "best score or time" competition, or will you come up with something completely different? Come 6pm we will rally 'round the island to compete. Sign-ups begin at 3pm and it's first-come, first-served in this free-to-join tournament.
How to! At the very least, you need a theme, a tournament to play around that theme, and an arcade challenge. Be as detailed as you can, or leave some of the details to us, but the BEST theme concept we receive by noon on Saturday September 22nd wins and will be announced here. Best to submit your theme on our Facebook page (see RSVP below if you're getting this via e-mail), but you can also email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are selected, you will be the CELEBRITY of the day with your name all over the day's signage. If you are there in person you will be the VIP with a backstage pass and Sharpie pens supplied for you to autograph everyone else's things. You may even receive a few hearty handshakes, and the ladies will certainly flock around you. Bottom line: you will have been the first to do this, and quite likely the last. History never forgets.
Oh, also... remember to get your trade boxes in order and wear your NAVA t-shirt (or get one) for the maximum discount on store purchases... it's NAVA time!
